Veeam Kasten Latest Release

Absolutely. Veeam Kasten extends its Kubernetes-native protection to include virtual machines running in or alongside containerized environments. This gives you the same reliable backup, recovery, and application mobility for VMs as you get with containers—helping to secure legacy workloads, reduce complexity, and confidently migrate applications to modern infrastructure.

Kasten and Red Hat have partnered to develop a storage-agnostic approach that leverages hypervisor-level tracking of changed blocks to enable more efficient, scalable backup operations for KubeVirt-based VMs. Organizations gain optimized backup efficiency for OpenShift Virtualization, accelerating their cloud native journey.

This new enhancement allows a user to configure a second export location from the same policy, drastically simplifying configuration and retention management for administrators who require multiple backup copies.

Label-based VM policies allow administrators to dynamically group and protect VMs based on business, application, or SLA-driven labels — regardless of namespace. This eliminates manual VM-by-VM policy management, ensures new VMs are automatically protected, and scales protection cleanly in large, multitenant deployments.

Improvements include a sharing/caching mechanism for index data from the remote repository and a new approach to storing that index data in Kasten worker Pods, reducing memory usage dramatically.

Many organizations are standardized on Amazon Web Services. Supporting AWS removes cloud dependency and aligns Vault with customer cloud strategies. If workloads, applications, or disaster recovery environments are already in AWS, storing Vault backups there simplifies architecture and networking. Also, AWS offers extensive global coverage. Customers can select regions that meet data residency, sovereignty, and compliance requirements.

Many enterprises run dozens or hundreds of OpenShift clusters across regions, clouds, and business units. By integrating Kasten multicluster management features with a widely adopted tool, customers can monitor their Kasten data protection operations from the same management console they use to manage their clusters.

Kasten is adding support for highly customizable user- and environment-specific rule enforcement. By integrating Kasten actions (both backups and restores) with Admission Controller policies, organizations ensure that any manipulation of cluster resources still goes through the same governance and enforcement rules as normal Kubernetes operations.

Expanded blueprint capabilities for Kubernetes data services allow Kasten to protect more workloads than ever, including critical AI infrastructure. This builds on Kasten’s existing integration with the Kanister framework to improve Kasten’s ability to back up and recover operator-based data services on Kubernetes.
